In the superyacht world, it’s easy to think of compliance as a back-office exercise; an administrative hurdle that’s managed remotely. At Dean & Waters, we see things differently.
For us, safety and regulatory oversight aren’t just obligations. They’re an opportunity to build trust, reinforce standards and support captains and crew in real, practical ways.
Earlier this season, members of the Dean & Waters operations team were on-site at STP Shipyard in Mallorca, carrying out internal ISM (International Safety Management) and ISPS (International Ship and Port Facility Security) audits onboard one of our commercially registered yachts.

This wasn’t just a scheduled visit. It was a strategic moment to ensure the yacht was fully prepared for flag state inspections and ready for safe seasonal operation following a significant refit and special survey period.
Compliance Manager, DPA & CSO Danny Binns and Fleet Operations Director James Ludden didn’t just audit paperwork—they worked side by side with crew, helping to prepare for upcoming Cayman Islands flag surveys, conducting drills, and running through the full suite of safety procedures to ensure clarity and confidence across the board.
“At Dean & Waters, compliance isn’t just a tick-box exercise – it’s a commitment powered by the passion and expertise of our dedicated team. From full-scale drills and crew training to rigorous audit schedules and meticulous implementation and maintenance of our audited SMS, we uphold the highest standards of ISM, ISPS, and MLC. We don’t just meet crew and owner expectations – we consistently exceed them.”
It’s all part of a bigger philosophy: that the best management is proactive, present, and precise. Our team is on the ground when it matters most, helping to keep every detail covered and every member of the team aligned.

A recent quote from the Captain of a 51m yacht in the STP yard showcases the type of high-touch service consistently we are now renowned for delivering - setting a benchmark for what modern yacht management should look like: “It’s always going to be a busy time for both the crew and the management team, but your guys have been an absolute pleasure to work with. And possibly the most remarkable fact is that you have managed to find the only DPA in the industry with a sense of humour…incredible!”
Whether it’s supporting crews post-refit or preparing a yacht for inspection, we believe that effective management doesn’t happen behind a desk—it happens on board.
